Insulated Panels Products
Greensmart manufacturers several different types of Structural and Non-structural Insulated Panels for envelope applications: Walls, Roofs, Foundations, Basements and Cladding for timber frame, post and beam projects and cantilivered space areas.

Why use Insulated Panels?
Insulated Panels are fast to erect; studies and repeat builders say by as much as 60% faster.  They are recognized as Advanced Envelope Systems by energy-efficient building professionals and are envelope solutions for LEED, EnerGuide 80 and Build Green projects.  Insulated Panels actually have 30% more insulation than wood framed buildings and constantly achieve 4 times more air tightness in post construction blower tests.  Insulated panels rank higher than all other advanced construction systems for overall performance and affordability. .

Meet New Building Codes
Insulated Panels meet or surpass the requirements of the new National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings. This new section of the Code addresses "excessive use of energy" in small and light commercial buildings.  Long recognized for their superior performance for energy-efficiency, using insulated panels means builders can easily meet Code standards without adding huge costs to their builds.

Affordable
Comparative cost studies of wood frame and Insulated Panels indicate that overall project costs remain close to the same.  Empirical evidence supplied by our repeat builders indicates that Greensmart Insulated Panels cost about 5% more than standard wood framing without new Code provisions for enhancing insulation and will cost less than ICF systems.

Structural or Non-structural Insulated Panels
Structural Insulated Panels or SIPs are used in construction when there is a load bearing requirement.  Non-structural Insulated Panels are used in envelopes where there is no load bearing requirement.  Both are "acceptable solutions in the Building Code.

What style of building can be built with Insulated Panels?
Any building up to four storeys high can be constructed with Greensmart Structural Insulated Panels. SIPs are very versatile and in many cases prove to be more easily adaptable than conventional construction methods using just dimensional lumber.

The advantages of panelized construction over conventionally framed building construction
Insulated Panel walls go up much faster than conventional wood frame constructed walls.  Plus – when the walls are up the insulation, vapour barrier, sheathing, window and door ROs and electrical device holes and wiring chases are in place.  SIP roofs go on quicker too and complicated roof angles are a snap because complex angle cuts are done in the factory. Our experience shows that even an inexperienced building crew can erect a homes main floor in 8 hours, a 40 x 60 shop in 6 hours and a  garage in 3 hours.  Generally it takes only 4 to 5 days to dry in a Insulated Panel project of average size. Thhen you are working in an easily heated interior.

There is no SIP related waste at the job site, it stays at the factory. Nothing to dispose of from a SIP build.

Structural strength? SIPs are more than twice as strong as stick built.

Architects and designers love SIPs because of their design flexibility and versatility, cathedral ceilings are no problem when you are building with SIPs.

No wonder that SIP construction see’s the largest sector growth in the construction industry.

Those are the Builders advantages now for the Buyers advantages for the buyer.

A building with a SIP envelope will be nearly 30% more energy-efficient than a conventionally stick built building. That’s because of better, more effective insulation and measurably lower air leakage through the enclosure. These two factors, superior insulation and superior air tightness, are the reason that SIP envelopes are recognized by Natural Resources Canada (NRC) for their high performance. NRC is also the agency that’s sets the standards for building codes and changes are scheduled for the next two years depending on which province you live.. Proposed changes are to increase insulation requirements and reduce air leakage. You guessed it SIPs as they are presently will meet the proposed changes. That means that if you build with SIPs today your building will retain still retain its same value after the building codes change and you get to save on energy costs for the life of the building.

How much faster can I build with Structural Insulated Panels?
A third party study conducted by the RSMeans unit of Reed Construction Data found that SIP home was constructed faster than traditionally framed buildings. That said in their report that a properly trained SIP installation crew can reduce labor costs by more than 50 percent compared to traditional stick framing.

How much labor can I save with SIPs?
Because SIPs are prefabricated, the amount of additional framing required is minimal. SIPs eliminate the need to coordinate trade crews and SIPs are always straight and true, there are far fewer callbacks, no culling studs, or need to straighten walls. SIPs also provide a uniform nailing surface for both interior and exterior finishing.

SIP  Timber Frame Homes
There isn’t a better choice for enclosing a timber frame home or post and beam constructed building.  Structural Insulated Panels are easy to use and ensure a faster lockup while providing a straight and true finishing surface. Is it any wonder that SIPs are preferred envelope method of timber frame contractors?  SIPs only make an already strong timber frame home stronger and SIPs make the envelope four times more air tight than other conventional wall construction.  SIP roofs provide the perfect lid to a timber frame or post and beam building by enhancing the superior insulation performance. You won’t make a better choice if you use Greensmart Structural Insulated Panels in your timber frame home.

About Greensmart
Greensmart is a leading manufacturer of Structural Insulated Panels in Canada. Supplying Western and Northwestern Canada, Greensmart fabricates its SIPs at the company's 140,000 sf factory in Dawson Creek, BC and can affordably transport to destinations all across and up and down Western Canada.

Greensmart also uses SIPs in its factory built modular homes and modular  commercial and  Modular purpose built workforce units making them more energy-efficient than any other modular available in the market.
